The Acer Aspire Vero features Kensington lock, integrated fingerprint sensor, Windows Hello facial recognition, OceanGlass touchpad, and keyboard backlight. The two options are flecked with undyed pieces of plastic used in the recycling process and have a rough, stone-like texture to them. The Aspire Vero comes in two different colors, Cobblestone Gray and Volcanic Gray. That includes a chassis made from 40% post-consumer recycled plastics (salvaged from waste, not during the production process), keycaps made from 50% PCR plastic, a touchpad made from plastic diverted from the oceans, minimalist packaging made from 90% recycled cardboard, and a motherboard that Acer claims is 52% smaller than competitors. Both also integrate a number of sustainability-minded features. Both are the same price and come with the same internals, including a 56WHr battery. He also alleges Acer's misrepresentations about the product caused consumers to purchase the laptop at a "substantial price premium." Volinksy alleges that despite Acer's representations, the hinge mechanism is made of low quality and low strength materials, which caused the hinges to break and detach with numerous complaints about the product appearing online. He claims Acer falsely represented and marketed that the computer has a "wide range of functionality," is built to last and is technologically advanced. Volinsky further alleges that the laptop's screen separated from the top panel housing which exposed the inside of the top panel and made it unable to close properly, which affected the computer's function. He alleges that the Acer laptop is made with a defective hinge mechanism, which caused the top panel and base panel to loosen and disconnect from each other. So in real time, it took us several phases spread out over the course of two years to entirely take the house from brown to black, including all the little snowball projects that evolved along the way. (You can see the missing stones and gaping holes closer up in the image with the new front door. It was another year before we had the porch stonework repaired where the pergola had once tied in to the house. Once the new roof was installed, we turned our attention to the front porch which was the final element we wanted to address before paint. And since we’re surrounded by trees, we had gutter guards added to prevent leaves from clogging the gutters. (Not shown here but they’re visible further down the post in the porch pictures.) We chose a dark finish to help them meld with the dark exterior vibe we were hoping to achieve. Per our roofer’s recommendation based on the slope and size of our roof, we also upgraded to oversized 6″ gutters and downspouts. ![]() As soon as it was in, it felt like it had always been there! There’s an original skylight on the backside of the house which we loved and wanted to balance out with another skylight opposite on the front of the house. We hadn’t even noticed it before! If you look closely, you’ll see that we also had our roofer install a new skylight (just above the bay window) to let more light into the living room. I couldn’t get over how the gray roof was bringing out the masonry grout of the stonework. Immediately, the stonework felt less brown. Hello warm gray roof! Even with the siding still brown, things were looking so much better. Weathered wood it was! (Apologies to the homeowners we house-creeped.) This was super helpful! We drove by the homes to see the shingle in real life (on a larger scale and in outdoor light) and it solidified our choice. But just to be sure, our roofer gave us the addresses of a few homes in our area that he had used the same shingle on recently. ![]() I kept going back to those gray shingles in the inspiration photo.Īfter checking out all the options and speaking with our roofer, we landed on the 30-year Tamko Heritage shingle in weathered wood. Metal felt too “slick” and out of place to us. 2) We really felt a dimensional shingle would give the house a softer texture that would pair well with the cedar siding, stonework, asphalt driveway and surrounding trees. Nothing that made us wish we would’ve done anything differently there, but the slope of this roof is much steeper and we anticipated more problems in the winter. 1) We had minor issues with ice damming and mini snow avalanches from the metal roof at our previous home. You know we totally considered a metal roof ( like the one at our previous house) but decided against it for two reasons. With the garage door in place, next up was the roof. It blocked light from the bay window and made for a prickly welcome to the front door…not exactly the first impression we had in mind for visitors. (Scroll up to the first image of this post to see it.) Nothing against the tree, but the placement was impractical. We also removed an awkwardly placed pine tree from the front bed. The last thing we wanted was to strip the house of its innate quirk. Our goal was to update the color scheme while paying homage to the house’s original, defining features. There were brown elements we liked (namely the ’70s stonework and funky exterior lights) but they were getting lost in a sea of brown on brown on brown. Obviously, the brown facade wasn’t a huge selling point but we saw the potential.ĭuring the inspection, we learned that the roof needed replaced and my reaction was, “Thank goodness!” (Said no other homeowner ever.) I knew switching up the roof color would go a long way in de-browning the exterior and give us more freedom in selecting a new color for the cedar siding. Brown siding, brown garage door, brown roof, brown gutters, brown stonework, brown front door, even brown exterior lights! ALL. These photos were taken nearly three years apart and a LOT has changed! As you can see, the house was once very BROWN. I snapped this picture of our house with my phone a few weekends ago. ![]() ![]() The amplitude of the carrier will have an effect on how much of the modulator signal is passed, only in opposite polarity (this is different from amplitude modulation). This is because of the polarity inversion between the transformers. When the carrier is negative, the left-right pair of diodes conduct and pass the modulator signal in reverse polarity. The carrier signal's amplitude will affect how much of the modulator signal is passed (similar to amplitude modulation). When the carrier is positive, the top-bottom pair of diodes conduct and pass the modulator signal in its true polarity. Note that ring modulation carrier and modulator signals should be bipolar, meaning their amplitudes pass through moments of positive and negative values. Whatever pair is conducting at a given time will carry the audio/modulator signal through the circuit. Each diode pair is made up of opposite diodes in the ring (in the circuit diagram above, the top and bottom diodes make one pair, and the left and right diodes make the other pair). The carrier signal (which must be AC) will cause one pair of diodes to conduct electricity and effectively reverse-bias the other pair. Note that the diodes in the diode ring can face clockwise or counter-clockwise, depending on the schematic. In the following explanation, we'll be referencing the simplified circuit above in which the diodes of the diode ring point in a clockwise fashion. Ring modulators are most often seen as effects units or synthesizer modules. The carrier is another signal (often a generated sine wave oscillator). With ring modulators (particularly those concerned with the audio effect), the modulator signal is typically the input/program audio. The carrier and modulator signals of a modulation circuit could be any electrical signal. We'll discuss typical amplitude modulation and how it compares to typical ring modulation later in this article.įrequency mixing is the electrical process of creating new frequencies at an output from two signals at an input via a “frequency mixer.” In the most basic sense, which happens to be the case with ring modulation, two signals are “mixed,” and new signals are produced, made up of the sum and difference of the original signal frequencies. Let's break down that first paragraph.Īs the name suggests, amplitude modulation is technically any system/process that modulates (alters) the amplitude of one signal by another signal. It effectively creates and outputs sidebands (the sum(s) and difference(s)) of a modulator and carrier signal. In electronics (and, therefore, audio), ring modulation is a type of amplitude modulation and an implementation of frequency mixing. He insists that an original game should feature original music since it’s an important aspect of the presentation that fans are instantly drawn towards. Naka also explained how Square Enix used rearranged music from a YouTuber for promotional purposes, instead of original tracks. Upon his removal from the project months before release, Naka also tried to negotiate with his business partners to allow him to fix issues until the game went public, sadly to no avail. Developer Arzest had submitted the game’s final build without fixing many of the bugs, even when Naka was pushing for additional polishing. Naka says that Square Enix knew about the rocky state of the game at launch, but went ahead and released it anyway. ![]() ![]() In a long Twitter thread written in Japanese, Naka explained that he had filed a lawsuit against Square Enix for his untimely removal from the project, and now that the proceedings are over, he is free to share additional details on the matter (he was also apparently banned by Square Enix from liking and sharing any posts on social media). While Naka confirmed that he had parted ways with Square Enix after the game’s disastrous launch, he recently took to Twitter to reveal that he was actually removed from the project a whole 6 months before the release of the game. Square Enix’s 3D platformer Balan Wonderworld was easily one of the worst games to come out last year, which was more than a bit surprising considering the interesting premise of the game and Sonic developer Yuji Naka helming the project. ![]() ![]() JASPER ® has been remanufacturing quality products since 1942 and is the nation’s largest remanufacturer of gas and diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, rear axle assemblies, air & fuel components, marine engines, sterndrives, performance engines, and electric motors.
